Hattie Carthan Community Market aggregates local foods collected from local gardeners who agree to grow chemical free, high-density foods. The garden currently provides valuable income to several gardens signed on to the local gardeners cooperative program, including: Tranquility Farm, T&T Garden, V&T Garden, and Jerry Senior Gents Garden. Click here for information on Institutional Basket options.

Hattie Carthan Community Farmers' Market shoppers have the option to sign up for a season of farm-fresh, local produce. Season Members pick up a Mixed Market Basket weekly that contains about five different varieties of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Members have the option to order a basket for one or a larger basket for couples and/or families. The Single Mixed Basket has enough produce to last one person through the week and the Family Mixed Basket feeds 2-4. In the summer a basket might have a combination of peaches, squash, tomatoes, peppers, basil and plums. In the cooler months a Basket could contain greens, turnips, sweet potatoes, cabbage or broccoli and other cool season crops.
The Food Sovereignty Shares Program creates an alternative to CSA programs and does not require a large upfront payment for the season. Participants of the program receive fresh, locally grown produce at reasonable prices. Take home a different combination of seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs and cage-free eggs every week!

Instead participants make a payment each month of the farmers' market season July - November with Cash, Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks or EBT (food stamps). The monthly payment is collected on the Saturday you pick up your first basket of the month.
We offer a variety of options to suit your needs:

All of the produce at the Hattie Carthan Community Farmers Market comes from local farms within 150 miles of Bed-Stuy. Many of the fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown at the Hattie Carthan Community Garden and Hattie Carthan Herban Farm by our resident farmer and volunteers who coordinate chemical-free farming operations at the Herban Farm and plots at the Community Garden and Market. Other produce comes from our partner farms the Lancaster Farmers' Cooperative, Glebocki Farms, and Migliorelli Farm. The local eggs come from the 2 Hattie Carthan Community Garden chicken coops and Lancaster dairy farmers.
Space is limited. Sign up is available in the months before the start of the Mixed Basket Program. Click to download the applications above or contact 212-561-7327 x9.
